Yun Nan Bai Yao: the "white remedy" that became an emblem of Yunnan
In south-western China, Yunnan is a land of mountains, renowned for centuries for the extraordinary wealth of its plants and its pharmacopoeia traditions. It was there, in 1902, that the physician Qu Huanzhang 曲焕章 developed a preparation soon known as Bai Yao 白药, the "white remedy".
In 1922 it took the name Bai Bao Dan 百宝丹, the "pill of a hundred treasures", before becoming the Yun Nan Bai Yao 云南白药 we know today. More than a century later, its name remains inseparable from the medicinal history of Yunnan, while its historic recipe still keeps part of its secret.
Traditionally, Yun Nan Bai Yao is associated with preparations intended to accompany the body through impacts, physical demands and recovery.
More than a formula, a century-old heritage of Yunnan.
